Party Like it's 2009

This last weekend was a busy one. We had two birthday parties for Gavin and Kaylee. The Bowman family came over on Saturday, and the Simmons family came over on Sunday. As you might have guessed from the cute background, the theme this year was puppies. I'm kind of running out of party themes that aren't gender specific, and at some point I'm going to have to get a little more creative.
The advantage to having the parties a day apart is that I could keep all the same decorations up from one day to the next. The disadvantage was that I was pretty pooped by the end of the second one, and I'm pretty sure my kids are still coming down from the sugar high they got from having cake and ice cream twice in a row.

Bear Lake

Thursday afternoon I headed up to Bear Lake with some friends. We stayed there until yesterday afternoon. The water was so clear and blue. There were only a handful of other people at the beach and at the condos we stayed at so it was very peaceful. One of the days I even took a nap! We walked on the beach and collected some pretty cool sea shells. We had lots of snacks and some really good meals. I'm really hoping that the banana and granola bar that I ate will cancel all of the naughty stuff out. We'll see...

Booger Ghost?

My daughter came down with a cold last night. Thankfully colds rarely slow her down, they are just a minor inconvenience. Anyway, she came out of the bathroom with a big smile on her face and said "I just made a booger ghost!" When I asked her what the heck that was, she explained to me that if you put a kleenex over your finger and stick it up your nose, you pull out a booger ghost! So now you know that every time you have done that, you didn't just make your tissue snotty, you made a real booger ghost. Who knew?

It's Raining Babies!

Have you ever wondered where the term "Baby Shower" came from? Why not just say "baby party" or "you're going to need so much new crap that we feel a little sorry for you so we're going to get together and have a party"... On second thought, Baby Shower sounds a lot better.
Anyway, my family threw a Baby Shower for me and Daxton at my mom's house on Saturday. There were some super cute decorations and wicked good chineese chicken salad along with my brother and sister in law's famous egg rolls. We played a game with songs that all had the word "baby" in them, and then another one where you have to figure out what kind of chocolate bar has been melted into a diaper. After having two and a half kids, I didn't think there was much that could gross me out, but I was so wrong.
I wanted to put a shout out to my work-friends for having a shower for me at my favorite restaurant Lorena's, and my since-elementary-and-high-school-friends for having one for me the day after at my next favorite restaurant, Robintino's. I brought my camera with me to both events, but apparently it works a lot better if you actually take it out of the case and use it. I'll know for next time!

Better Late Than Never...

Our family had a fun Easter this year. Not that that's a hard thing to accomplish when you celebrate a holiday that combines candy and presents. I know that Easter isn't only about those two things, but I think it's safe to say my kids wouldn't get too thrilled if all we did was talk about The Resurection. It's all about the candy at their age. And mine too if I'm being honest.

Here Fishy Fishy...

Last weekend me and the mister decided to take the kids to the Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy. I have been wanting to go there ever since they moved from the Gateway, and it seemed like a good day to do it. Gavin and Kaylee loved all of the exhibits they had, especially the place where you can put your hands in the water and touch the stinky fish and the sting rays. If we hadn't literally dragged their soaking wet bodies away from there, they'd probably still be there.

Tea Time

This last Saturday I had the opportunity to go to a Japanese Tea Ceremony. I never knew there even was such a thing, or how much goes into the planning of one. Every detail from the flower arrangments to the way the host is supposed to enter the room is thought out very carefully. I can't say I'm a big fan of tea, or sitting on the floor (especially being so preggo), but I enjoyed participating in an authentic cultural tradition.
